Directory Submitter - A Review
I hate doing the mundane; let me make that clear. I'm for adventure, excitement and mint ice cream! I also want my web site out there in front of as many eyes as I can get it. Submitting to the top 3 big boys (Google, Windows Live and Yahoo) are a part of that (thanks, SBI, for handling that for me!), but directory submissions are just as important. The more backlinks I receive, the higher my Google Page Rank. The higher my PR, the more valuable my web site real estate becomes. Thus, the more money I can charge to advertisers who want to place ads on my web site. Additionally, the SE's see my backlinks as how popular I am.
SUPA-STAR!! ;)
As I said, though, submitting the same information (name, description, keywords, blah blah) is tedious and boring and it takes a long time, when done manually. Plus, you really don't know the myriad of directories out there, unless the Directory Fairly was kind enough to drop an exhaustive list under your pillow. Enter Directory Submitter.
Directory Submitter is a great piece of software created by Brad Callen and his crew of madcap programmers that eliminates the repetition involved in submitting the same information to directory after directory after directory. They are the same crew that created Article Submitter and Keyword Elite (awesome software, but that's another article! ;) ).
In Directory Submitter, you simply create a Profile for each web site that you are wanting to submit, filling in the blanks with all the information on that particular site. After the Profile has been created, you have a list of 300 directories that you have the options of sorting by Page Rank, Alexa score, Category (General, Hosting, Jewelry, etc), and Type (whether it's a directory you can submit to for free, you have to pay for inclusion, or both). You double-click a directory name, it brings it up in the built-in Web browser and fills in all the information from your Profile selection for you! All you need to do to complete the submission is select the category where you want your web site to reside. For example, mine would be in the Travel section. After you're finished, Directory Submitter tags that directory with the date you submitted to it, so that you know you're done with that one and you move on. Wash, rinse, repeat. I tend to do about 5 or 6 submissions a day.
As I said, the free version of Directory Submitter provides you a list of 300 directories to go through. Directory Submitter Gold (I believe it cost me a measly $49) provides you with a list of over 2,200 directories. That's quite the list! The more directory sites you submit to, the merrier! Updates are free for life, too. Finally, they have a terrific affiliate program that you can join and make a 75% commission from promoting and selling the software.
Now, keep in mind that Directory Submitter isn't magic. It's not going to get you tons of backlinks or traffic overnight. It is simply an easy to use piece of software that makes your submission to the directories tons faster. Just like submitting by hand, some directories you'll get into right away, some in a couple weeks to months and a few not at all. Just remember that the higher the Page Rank of the directory you're submitting to, the better results you'll receive in the long run. Directory Submitter provides you with the sites that have PR's of 8 and on down. I have noticed my traffic increasing since I been submitting.
Are there any drawbacks to the software? Not at all. As I said, it just makes your job easier.
Anyway, if you hate repeating the same keystrokes over and over and Carpel Tunnel ain't your cup of tea, Directory Submitter is your answer.
Here's to your success!
