Placing Orders Online - What Are Your Options?

There are a number of options available to online shoppers when they are placing orders online. For a variety of reasons, shopping online is very acceptable. It is convenient and offers people the ability to shop for products from retailers located anywhere in the world.

For consumers to be able to place orders in different ways further enhances the desire to shop online. In this article I will discuss several of the options available when placing orders online.

Placing Orders through the Website

A popular option for placing your order when shopping online is to go directly to the retailers online website to place your order. On their websites, retailers offer you with the ability to use the virtual shopping cart to add items to your order while browsing around at the others items that are available for sale.

Once you have completed your shopping and before you make the final purchase, you will have the ability to review the items, which you have in your shopping cart. You can either add more products or remove any contents from the cart. Doing whatever is necessary before proceeding to checkout with your purchases.

When you are ready, you will be asked to provide such information as billing address, payment info (credit card), and the address that you would like to have the item shipped to. You may choose to have the item shipped to yourself or someone else.

Calling Customer Service to Place an Order

When you are shopping online you may need or want to call customer service rather than placing your order online. You may choose this method for a variety of reasons. The retailers website may not have the option to complete the purchase online or these features may not be in working order at the time of your purchase. In these cases it will of course be necessary to place your order over the phone.

However, as a consumer, you may just feel more at ease opting to place your order over the phone, even though it is possible to do so on the website. In such a situation your order may be particularly complex or you may have questions that you would like answered before placing your order.

If you are going to contact customer service, you should have any necessary information available before doing so. The most important info to have on hand is the, product number and the billing and shipping information.

Faxing or Mailing Orders

If you are shopping online, you could also choose to mail or fax your order to the online retailer. To do this you would choose the items of interest and then print out the order form from the retailer's website. Although this method is uncommon, there are still some people who use it.

With this method you do have the ability to pay for your purchase with a cheque instead of a credit card, if you do not own one. You will probably need to have a credit card if you are placing orders online or over the phone.

Even though you may have the advantage of being able to use either a credit card or cheque using this method of placing your order, it does have it's disadvantages. The disadvantage being that it will take longer to process the order, whereas, by ordering online or over the phone the order is processed instantly. Also, when you mail your order in, it will take a few days to arrive and then process. Even if you send your order by fax, it will not likely be processed right away despite arriving quickly.
