DAB Radio

A DAB radio is a latest and new way of listening to songs. It is nothing but a Digital Audio Broadcasting that gives much more clarity and quality to the songs and music that is heard. This also gets more of radio stations than the FM radios, as the technology used in this is that of digital waves than analogue waves, which explains the clarity and the crispness of the music played.

The DAB radio was introduced in the UK in 1995. The actual technology that is used in this is called the COFD, which stands for Coded Orthoganal Frequency Division Multiplex along with the MPEG technology which helps in transforming analogue waves to digital. Analogue transmissions are usually interfered by "Multipath" disturbances, which is nothing but lose of signals in between hills and other disturbances. It has processors that rule out the possibility of any disturbances or interferences, thus giving clear and distortion-free music.

The traditional FM radio machines would not be able to collect digital signals and become a DAB radio. For this, specific radios are available that convert the signals into digital signals and pick them up. They also come with an LCD screen that gives the station details. This does not mean that all radios with LCD screens are DAB radios. Though these signals are easily available, in some remote places, they might not be received in the UK. Many stations come in different parts of the UK, for example, in London, more than 50 stations can be picked at a time.

There are many advantages of having such radios. The first and foremost advantage being that they have the capacity to get more radio channels with very good voice clarity and quality. Different stations, each one specialising in a specific kind, are also available with the help such radios. The disturbances and interruptions coming are also less or even zero, when compared to the analogue signals. They are also simple to use and do not include any complex buttons or mechanisms in it. Also since many have an LCD display giving details of the channel, the song played, artist etc, it proves to be very informative. And the most important thing - digital radio is free and there is no need to pay anything for the connection! Only the DAB Radio is to be paid, while buying it.

With so many advantages that the radio has, it is definitely a good source of entertainment to all those who love music of different genres and types and artists!
